Menu Planning

I so wish that I was more organized. I try to be, but is does not come naturally to me at all! With baby #3 on the way, I thought I should try a little harder before we end up in total chaos. As of right now, I go to the Grocery store about 3 times a week. Mostly because the kids love it and it gives us something to do. I don't mind, but there is no way I am going to be able to take 3 kids to the store several times a week. So, I am going to try out Menu planning which should cut down on my grocery store trips. This is my ghetto attempt at a monthly calendar (thanks for the idea Kathryn!). I'm sure there are a hundred ways to make it cuter, but at least I got it done :)

In case any one is interested, it is made of plastic 3 ring binder business card holders. You just cut off the edges and tape them on to some scrapbook paper. I just happened to have some old business cards laying around that I don't use anymore, so I wrote down a bunch of meals on the cards. It probably would have looked cuter if I typed them all out. Each month you simply look through your stack of meals and slide them in the calendar and hang it up on the fridge. And, they are easy to move around if your plans change! Lets hope it works!

What do YOU do to make menu planning and shopping a little easier?

Just another thing you do that makes the other daughter in laws look bad :) If I could only be half the home maker you are! You are awesome!

That is a great idea. I have a little notepad with the days of the week on it that I use but I like the idea of having a bunch of meals written down and then just mixing them up since I spend a LOT of time every Sunday trying to decide what we'll have that week.
I can't believe your kids LIKE the grocery store, mine thinks its like torture land or something, even when we have a cart with videos in it!
You will find that you not only save SO much time by only going once a week but you will save SO much money too. I try to plan my meals around some common ingredients so nothing goes to waste.

Well shoot, forget the menu planning--look at your delicious meals!!! You only eat leftovers once a month? You are amazing!

GOOD IDEA! I am always trying to figure out what to eat, even if I have food in the house. I should make a menu eh??? You are way more organized than most. Good work! Hope things are going well!

What a fantastic idea! I am already scheming new ways to do something like this at home. Honestly, Jonathan would LOVE it, since he does most of the cooking! LOL!

well, I don't have any great ideas. I tried the monthly thing, but when it came time to make what I had picked for the day, it never sounded good. hee :) BUT on the days that I DO plan and we make what I plan, it's always cheaper and I feel better about myself as a mom. so, if nothing else, stick with it for the good feelings!
I was wondering, though, if you know of any great photographers in utah county :) if they have blogs, can you send those to me?
good luck potty training! miss you a lot!

Thanks for the idea. I am the worst. Sounds like I'm similar to you, (which I'm not sure I believe that you are not organized)I have to force myself to be that way.

Well I've been meaning to organize my recipes forEVER. I started a recipe blog about a year ago (b/c a girl can never have enough blogs right?). But I wasn't making it work for me. About a month ago I decided Sunday night I'd just spend 30 minutes finding the new recipes I wanted to try for the week and post them on my blog. Then I'd always have the link to them and I'd repost the recipes that I really like. So far it's been great. And I've been able to a record of what we ate.
